April 5, 2017

Hello Mackay,

Please take note of the following dates and reminders:

Special Lunches Part B Registration – Part A of the current lunch period will come to a close on April 28th. Part B will begin on May 1st and will continue through June 16th. Registration for Part B lunch will open on Thursday, April 6th at noon and will remain open until 11:30pm on April 20th. You may order lunch by clicking on the following link once the registration opens:

Mackay Spring Book Fair – The annual Spring BOGO (Buy One Get One Free) Scholastic Book Fair is on April 28th. This event offers a great opportunity for you to add twice as many books to your personal library. For every item you buy, you get another item for FREE!  All free items must be of equal or lesser value than the ones you pay for. If you purchase more than two books, the cash register automatically pairs books with similar value and will treat books of equal or lesser value from each pair as a free item.

Family Science Night – On Friday, May 12th, Mackay HSA member families are welcome to enjoy a *free* fun evening filled with science and surrounded by nature. Tenafly is filled with night life and all of it can be enjoyed at the Tenafly Nature Center. Each 1-hour time slot will feature a few mini-programs and activities that you and your family will be guided through as you discover  the science of our backyards. Two sessions will be available: 6:15-7:15pm or 7:30-8:30pm. Registration will open April 29th and close May 10th. More information will be provided as the date nears.

Please be aware that school will be closed an additional day during the Memorial Day holiday weekend, since only two days were used as "snow days". There will be NO school on Tuesday, May 30th, in addition to Friday, May 26th and Monday, May 29th.

Mackay School Drop-off / Pick-up Rules – Please review the rules for pick up and drop off:

  • Drop-off & pick-up zones are designed to have vehicles form a line and move forward as children are dropped-off and picked-up. When you arrive, please move forward as far as space allows. Do not leave your vehicle unattended in these zones during the posted times.
  • For the safety of all students, please drop-off and pick-up at the curb only. Do not "double-park" to allow your child to exit/enter the car. This forces children to walk in between cars already waiting along the curb. This is dangerous as small children can easily be overlooked or hidden from view as they walk in front of or behind large SUVs and cars trying to leave.
  • If you need to leave your vehicle and walk your child into the school or drop-off belongings to the main office, you must find a legal parking space. Do not park your vehicle in fire lanes or in drop-off / pick-up zones.
  • If you are parking, please be respectful of our neighbors. Do not block or park in private driveways. Police will be enforcing these regulations, as well as double-parking, blocking fire hydrants and cross-walks, parking in fire lanes, and parking within 50' of any stop sign.
  • On-street parking fills up quickly, especially at dismissal time. If you must park, plan to arrive early to find a legal parking spot. If you don’t immediately find a parking spot, please be patient. Drive around the block and give traffic some time to clear out.

Tenafly Summer Enrichment – Registration is open – The Summer School Program offers a variety of educational opportunities for students entering grades K through 9. Enrichment classes will be held at the Tenafly Middle School and SAT/ACT Prep Classes will be held at Tenafly High School. Swimming Lessons – Tenafly Recreation is now registering children for summer swimming lessons. The lessons will be held at the Tenakill Swim Club and are available for all children registered for Kindergarten for the fall to 5th grade. The lessons begin June 27th and are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact the Recreation Department (not the Tenakill Swim club) for more information.

Have a safe Spring Break! School is closed from April 8th to the 16th.
